hey y’all, this is just a temporary (most likely to get banned) profile, however most of you probably know me as clone4.
The one and only purpose of this thread is basically to say goodbye to this community and express, well, let’s call it confusion about the circumstance in which I am literally forced to leave. I know nobody is probably interested in this, but I’m still gonna write here little of background, considering the substantial time I have been spending on this site (kinda pointless since this thread is likely to be deleted anyway).
It’s been now months when I came to HBH after google searches such as ‘how to hack websites’. Back then I was like any other new kid here, wanting to be able to deface sites, so you can show off and look good. Of course subsequently I did go through skiddy period, using gui web scanners against my old college web site, with Miranda dual-booted on my box, and I remember thinking ‘peak of the mountain, that’s it, I’m hacking!’. It was only afterwards that I realized how lame it was. Browsing through random security sites, as well as articles here, I started to improve and get some actual knowledge, web exploiting, creating my own shell etc. HBH (or the members to more precise) was also the reason why I picked perl over any other languages, which I love, and now I’m able to use for a wide range of purpose.
All this stuff is just to show that yes hbh and its community helped me a lot in the beginning, and I am grateful for that.
When I somehow reached a level where I could be of any use, I started to try and be instrumental. And then Zephyr_Pure came along, and I thought that would be a true revolution for hbh, in no time he became admin, and started to put into motion as much as he could against the resistance of Cheese. I personally helped with articles clean-up (never to be carried out) and further some minor things. And then he was gone, all the effort, all the hopes for revolution gone. Our Che Guevara of hbh was gone… The situation after that could be described as stagnation, i.e. literally nothing happening. I did help with new FAQ, which took about 2-3 months to be implemented, and only with Futility’s involvement (admin at the time if I remember correctly), but besides that nothing mentionable. And then another thread rose to glory, spyware initiating the discussion, and myself with couple of people (I’d mention nicknames in particular, but too afraid I’d leave out someone important) started to complain about the same stuff we did with Zeph: the dictator-like way the site is handled, absolute obscurity when it comes to dealings between admins, and censorship about the security breaches. This lead to poll for new forum moderators, which have never been carried out, because for some reason Moshbat, who initiated that poll, had been suspended and taken away his admin rights. Until this point, I’d been trying to help and contribute to the community as much as I could, eventually leading me to the hbh newsletter crew.
As you can see, literally I’ve always tried the best for the site, even when I found exploit, which allowed me to wipe out whole code bank with less than 5 lines of code, I reported it and helped to fix it.
Then suddenly there started to be more and more account hijacks, but following the procedure nobody received any information relating what happened, or what is currently going on. And then my account got hijacked. I thought not a big deal, since I was using unique pass just for hbh, there wasn’t that much person could do with my account, which led to couple days of VERY light spamming (we are talking about couple of ‘I like EG better than this site’ in shout box). Out of nowhere cheesy decided that would be sufficient reason to ban me. Even though until this moment I haven’t received any reasoning or explanation, I thought, fair enough I kind of deserved it, since I didn’t take any measures to prevent the spamming. So I just registered another account, and considered this sorted, but I suppose that wasn’t in the mind of the ‘one’ (okay I actually got two extra accounts, one however had been registered for a while for security tests). Those got banned shortly afterwards and then, again absolutely out of nowhere, ip ban. I actually laughed, because it was quite ridiculous, no reasoning, no evidence, no sentence, just execution (just the way cheese likes it handled). I do confess to one crime, and that is taking an empty account (no pass and no username) and using it temporarily, but besides I haven’t done anything even close to harm hbh. Yet if cheese saw me online, he kept on ip banning my tor ips one after another (in total during past couple of days I’ve received about 10 bans), and apparently keeps on doing it at the moment.
So here it is, how clone4 left hbh ‘the story uncovered’:). No particular reason, just a whim of the owner I guess. Note that I may have left out info that I didn’t consider important, but may have been substantial for other to know, so my apology if the story seems inconsistent. Also the information presented here is of course based on resources available to a regular member, and I was forced to make some assumption, which may or may not be correct.
There is a lot of dirt that flows through the stream of hbh without members noticing, but I’m neither in place or right to start discussing it, only one person is…

You really don't have to leave. But, from the post and previous converstaions, I assume you've wanted to for some time and this is just the excuse. If that's the case, then fine, by all means, do what you want. I just don't want you to feel forced out by a community when it was really just one man's (poor) decisions.
Also- the Moderator poll wasn't ended because we forgot, nor was it started by Mosh. I kind of jumped the gun on that one and figured that if we got enough people to take part, someone would just have to go along with it. So, rather than asking for someone's permission, I just kind of went ahead and started it. Someonewasn't happy and I got 'yelled' at. However, now that we're two moderators in the hole, why couldn't we allow the winners in? Oh yea, because what we want doesn't matter.
Other than that… well… have a good time doing whatever it is you plan on doing. Know that you'll be missed (by me, at least) and are always welcome back. You can contact me through AIM/MSN/whatever, as well. I'm always up for a conversation.
clone, sorry to see you down. I'm in the dark somewhat about HBH's running, but its getting more and more obvious that we as a community have a fair few problems, with peoples accounts being hijacked and the like.
All I can say is please stick around till we sort this all out, you are one of HBH's shrinking pool of knowledgeable members and it would be a shame to see you go. If your mind is made up, than I wish you the best of luck with your future endeavors, and hope that we cross paths soon.

I remember, a while ago, when I first joined HBH, I was having difficulty with some of the harder challs, I saw clone4 post a thread in the forums saying something like 'You could shoot me a PM, I'm always happy to help'. In my opinion, he has always lived up to his word.. No matter how simple the problem or complex, he would always do his best to help you and when he didn't know (not often) he would direct you to some good sources, and whenever you needed help with a chall he would always word his reply to help you, just enough for you to use your head and do it by yourself.. Clone, you'll be missed by many, if not all, the members here at HBH, if however, there's no changing your mind, I hope you succeed in whatever you plan to do.. And, on behalf of HBH: We salute you.. on another note, look at the "bookmark" links on the right. interesting, might want to give a few threads in the testing area a go, see if you can XSS and get HoF ;)
This reminds me of the last flood that lost many users (I was one of them only to return some many months later). Cheese, Own up to what happened. You know as well as I do Dan that this is not right. We cannot be loosing all the members who know what they are talking about or all you will have left is a "hacking website" with a bunch of noobs and skids on it…but as long as you get hits I guess…You are the owner of the site… (most likely get Warn for this but what ever…its the truth.)

The problem: The bookmark function gets the title of the page. It then uses that title to store bookmarks, blah, blah. I did a quick preg_replace() to get rid of certain symbols, job's a good one… Unfortunately, someone happened to roll back most of HBH's pages to no real sucess, the logs and what have you are still there (note my accout getting stolen, password being typed out in plain text over here in the forums, every single time using three machines :|)

No offense, but you don't know what you're talking about. Nobody's account has been "hijacked". I'm sure you'll be updated soon… Clone4 was banned because you decided to go with the quick, easy solution rather than finding a real one.
Enough.
I am tired of people getting banned and shit. I'll investigate who hijacks all these accounts. And if people could use their brains (that I assume people still have) they could see that Mr_Cheese banned the accounts because they were spamming shit all over the site. I'll unban the accounts at once when I've taken care of the person hijacking.

If it was a real problem (which it is obviously not if someone would take a look and figure out what was happening), they would post a thread or a message of some sort stating that the banned accounts would be unbanned as soon as a solution presented itself. They would talk to their members. But no, we have Sir InstaBan and his merry crew of ass-kissers running around playing God instead. Thanks for 'protecting' us and good luck finding the 'person' responsible.
And why the hell do you get credit for 'finding' the bookmark XSS thing?! You know you didn't find it and we know you didn't find it. Just because you're an admin doesn't mean you can do whatever the hell you want and not get called out on it.
I got jacked out of my account for 2 days about 6 or 7 days ago. I just changed my password when I logged in a few days later. But I assuming the person was a mod // admin. However, when I requested a new password, it didn't work. Just sharing. And no need to leave Clone.. Its the same everywhere else. People exploring.
I really did not intend to post in this thread, but just to clarify few things that I assumed would've been implied from my post. I wouldn't do such a drama from a single ban, however subsequent bans on my different accounts and number of ips is just plain unreasonable and a little too over the top. However I've also been here long enough to know you can't argue against Cheese's ill judgement, so I won't go that way. Second, Futility was partially right that I sort off intended to leave but I always thought there still might be a chance for a change; nonetheless this is not supposed to be an excuse, but just another reason. There are many things that could have been done, and that can be done to really improve the community and I and others tried numerous times, yet the owner is reluctant to do that, for what, member count and traffic rank? And that was the whole reason for the rather long post, not to bore you or whatever, but to show what my decision is based on. It's not the stupid ban, because no I don't give a shit about my account, really, it is just the way hbh is that i don't agree with, that's all…

I think those of you who expect to be treated like an associate need to rethink your position here. Cheese has a job…. a real life. It's a hell of a lot easier to just kill the problem while it's small and repair the damage later. And where were the admins when this was happening?

That requires finding the actual source of the problem. If you cut the head off a weed and leave the roots it'll just keep growing back.
And where were the admins when this was happening?
There are only a few active admins left at the moment. I don't know about all of them, but at least -cL tried to do a little bit of investigative work.
