Maybe for you… I can't stand them :P Download's lineup was looking good, but it's right in the middle of my exams so I can't go >_< I was planning on Leeds instead, but considering the amount of bands going that I actually like, it wouldn't be worth it.

Maybe for you… I can't stand them :P
Radiohead are fucking awful. They're boring, slow and depressing.
yours31f wrote: I was kinda curious myself if anyone was going. It WILL be epic and I hope to see you guys there.
You're coming over from Texas to go to Reading? =/
MoshBat wrote:
system_meltdown wrote: Radiohead are fucking awful. They're boring, slow and depressing.
Actually, their usual tempo is around 120-60 bpm. If you've just heard one song (Probably Creep) you can't really judge that way, now, can you. As for the awful part, they have some freaking good musicians… Though, that criticism is coming from someone who likes music made on a computer, which, at last check, takes no talent at all… I just got an A* on a GCSE Music piece I made on a PC in half an hour.
Now now, jumping to conclusions are we.
Actually since I heard they were headlining I decided to check them out, as I'd only heard a few songs before on the radio, so I YouTube'd various songs, and from what I saw, they sucked.
And you realise not all electronic music is done on a computer? Ever heard of turntablism? You think it's easy aye? My friend got an A* in Media at GCSE for a magazine cover which was made in Microsoft Word, doesn't mean it was done to the same standard that the magazine industry is at. Neither was your crappy little song. Oh and, if it's that simple, why don't you do it and get money? Did your GCSE Music piece earn you a tonne of cash? Hmm, no? Thought not.
If you think it's that easy to do, give it your best shot and we'll see who's right. If you can make a million from one record, then you are, if not, then I am and you can shut the fuck up.
Zing!
Oh and one more thing.
Read up on Wikipedia about Radiohead, they class them self as Alternative Rock/Electronica.
Electroncia is a sub-genre of EDM (Electronic Dance Music), which means parts of their songs would have been created using electronic instruments and/or a computer, and read this, taken straight from the Wiki.
By the mid-1990s, Radiohead began to mention an interest in electronic music, especially that of Massive Attack and the instrumental hip hop of DJ Shadow, which Radiohead claimed as an influence on parts of OK Computer.[66] Other influences on the album were Miles Davis and Ennio Morricone, along with 1960s rock groups, such as The Beatles and The Beach Boys.[6][21] Jonny Greenwood also cited composer Krzysztof Penderecki as an inspiration on the sound of OK Computer.[21] The electronic style of Kid A and Amnesiac was the result of Thom Yorke's admiration for glitch, ambient techno and IDM as exemplified by Warp Records artists such as Autechre, Aphex Twin, Boards of Canada and Squarepusher.[12]
What's this, the almighty Radiohead were influenced by people like Aphex Twin? Does this mean, they are talentless too then, since they list electronica as a secondary genre for their music? Since as you said, music from a computer requires no talent whatsoever (cough bullshit cough).
You may be thinking, how does Radiohead being influenced by EDM/IDM mean they use a computer to create music? Well look here:
In October 2000 Radiohead released their fourth album, Kid A, the first of two albums from these recording sessions. Rather than being a stylistic sequel to OK Computer, Kid A featured a minimalist and textured style with less overt guitar parts and more diverse instrumentation including the ondes Martenot, programmed electronic beats, strings, and jazz horns.
Oh yes, PROGRAMMED ELECTRONIC BEATS!
I think I just won :)
MoshBat wrote:
system_meltdown wrote: …………………. I think I just won :) Let's see, then. I'm in a band, so yes, I'll give it a fucking good go. What style would you like me to do? I can play any of the following: Guitar (12 string, Electric, Acoustic, Bass, 5-string bass); Keyboard/Piano/Synth to a reasonable standard; Violin/viola/double bass (pretty much the entire string family); Flute, penny whistle; Drums, Kit and djembe;
So, yeah. name the instrument/style, and I'll do it.
Also, there is a difference between making an entire song/record using only a nice little mac, and using an actual instrument. I value skill of a musician much more than skill of a typist. And even I use computerized beats from time to time, and own a drum-machine… If not just because I can't do both at the same time.
No I mean the fact you said that using computerised beats requires no talent. So give that a go. I don't give a fuck about your band. I meant if it requires no talent, then any idiot can do it, right? So go ahead, make some good tracks and get a million. If you can't, then yes, I've won.
And nice to see you didn't comment about turntablism, or the fact your almighty messiahs, Radiohead, class themselves as Alternative Rock/Electronica.
Children.. Children.. Calm down..

The line-up looks AMAZING! I'd go if I could get hold of some tickets. Charlie, Hook me up, we'll go together, oh and with amy of course ;)
system_meltdown wrote: I'm looking forward to The Prodigy mainly.
Oh and tickets sold out on Monday night within an hour and a half or so.
The Prodigy should be amazing, Got their album before it was released, loved it, purchased it because you gotta support the bands now adays; ya-know; keep them going, else I won't be listening to their music for much longer
About this little argument.. Both of you stop :) Or i'll slap you both :ninja: Or come to your houses with my Sword
On a serious note though, Since you're both Computer Literate and are familiar with several programming langauges.
Reading == Good Arguing ABOUT Reading != Good Arguing ABOUT Reading == BAD
Ok, firstly, js alerts… Funny as hell.
Secondly, radiohead, not a fan, I play lots of instruments as well, and yes i've heard more than just creep.
Finally, I love programming things on computers, in music and coding, and yes it requires no specific talent to do, but to do well it does require talent.

Exhibit no talent: http://www.myspace.com/abstraktdubstep
Ever tried wobbling a guitar part? Not easy.
Do I have a point? Probably not.
MoshBat wrote: Also, I stated that using computers requires no talent, and it doesn't. My band, although you don't give a fuck, shit, whatever, use real instruments… But judging by the shit out nowadays, even just using one chord for an entire sound would equal a #1 in the charts…
jjbutler88 wrote: Finally, I love programming things on computers, in music and coding, and yes it requires no specific talent to do, but to do well it does require talent.
Using computers requires some talent; Maybe not much; But it does.. And as JJButler Said.. It takes skill to do something well..
Practice what you preach Moshbat, choose your words carefully.
Everybody has their own tastes. If something sounds good? Deal with it; Don't squabble amongst your peers and co-workers so to speak..
Get my drift?
@system: Yep, my company has started to take off and I have the money to go. Plus I got the tickets for my birthday so that was an awesome present. I'm taking my girlfriend since she has always wanted to see London, so I'm spending the week.
COM wrote:
yours31f wrote: I'm taking my girlfriend since she has always wanted to see London It ain't that great, people are rude, traffic is awful, you have to pay for driving to different parts in the same damn city and worst of all, it smells like horse shit.
I'd have to agree here, 90% of the people are rude. Traffic is Dire.. Paying the congestion charge is stupid.. BUT! It doesn't smell like Horse shit.. :D
What do they say about bringing smells with you? ;)
