yeah this thread has nothing to do with computers… but my understanding is that its similar characteristics in people that draw them to music as to hacking. (analytical people). so yeah i also couldn't be bothered signing up with some lame guitar forum. so i decided to come to my family :D surely someone on in my hacking community plays guitar.

kk well here is my problem. i am a guitar noob, with a new guitar. its Ibanez RG450 with a Floyd Rose bridge i think its called. basically as i tighten my new strings it lifts the bridge.

what my noobish eyes can see the problem being is that the springs on the back/inside aren't tight enough and i need to screw them deeper… but basically im scared of doing that cause i have no idea what im doing.

should i just go to a guitar shop or crack out the screwdriver?

I tried guitar, but honestly I just love bass…

Any who, if you are talking about the nut on the very top end of the neck close to the head, all you need is a hex key and you should be fine doing this on your own. If you are serious about playing guitar as you might be serious about learning computers then you know you have to fuck it up a little bit to get the most out of the experience.

My advise would be to go on and give it a try, if you really get scared and think you might have messed it up too bad then go on and take it in to Guitar Center and they can fix, and maybe even guide you through the process ;)

If you are going to play guitar, treat your instrument like your computer, learn it, love it, and study it. Good luck man, let me know how it goes.

The screws you refer to should rarley be altered unless very wrong…

99% of the time you just need to tune in the strings proper…

i have never altered those screws on my guitar except for the time i dismantled it to respray it.

Tho if they do need changing, as mentioned above, try it your self, the worst your going to do is mess up the sound, and if thats wrong as it is, you got nothing to lose!

as a guitarist you probibly know of good tab sites, but if you dont…

WWW.MXTABS.NET !!!!!!

Just about any track you could think of for guitar/drums and bass :)

my E string just snapped :(

(the little one) don't know why tho. i was loosening it… yeh pretty annoyed right about now lol…

I think i was getting somewhere tho… just a set back i guess, ill go into the local music shop tomorrow and ill have a chat to the store dude. the most annoying thing is that i brought this guitar thursday… and ive played it for 10 min.. however its been in my hands for about 5-8 hours… in hacker terms that would like trying to hack without a connection… there is only so much you can do…

oh and bass guitar man don't feel bad lol. i dont think the string snapping had any reliance to your advice. encouragement is prob what i needed.

thanks guitar God man. i gave them 1/4 twist cause the bridge was ridiculously high. sitting at about 20degrees. i read somewhere that i should get it tuned close then clamp it then fine tune what you think?

Damn man, sorry about your string. Comes with the territory… keep spares always.

Sounds like your action is too high, the bridge that is. If you want that to be lower, then I do truly suggest you take it in to a shop. I personally prefer high action on my bass cause I like the sound more. You'll figure it out bro.

well this does have a happy ending my bridge is back down.

I went and got some strings, at the same time i asked "do you change strings as well?" his reply was "yeh for sure, oh but we dont do floyd roses" yeh… kinda felt like punching him in the face.

but yeh loosened off the strings and gave it about 3/4 of a turn (all up) and yeh bridge is down and it sounds sweet!

also how do you get your amp to make a guts palm mute noise my amp doesn't have over drive thingos, but its running through a 80 channel foot thingo… and its got distortion…

the nobs labeled on my amp are low, high, high mid, low mid.
