A Hellish Paradise
I decided to make this thread because I'm utterly grateful. Ever since I was unable to access free internet, through an unsecured wireless access point I got into hacking. I wish I did when I saw the movie Wargames or Hackers for that matter, all the knowledge I would have now if I had started back then. Needless to say I cracked the WEP, and was no longer deprived of access to that great mecca we call the web. I learned all I could about networks(topologies&protocols)and security. It involves a lot of reading, but tends to be a lot more gratifying than searching for free porn !lol!. I'm grateful that a person that inhabits an island barely visible on the world map is able to access this site and LEARN. I'm just starting out on my first programming language, C++, and still learning all I can about networks and security. I even went back to college for it,and I'm racking up a nice debt with Uncle Sam on my masters degree in telecommunications and networks. So thanks to all of the admins, moderators and members. I look forward to contributing and donating, since I haven't contributed as much as I should, but as my knowledge and skills increase, rest assure that I will contribute to the site that has already given back to me.:(
Cant argue with that. I did, started off with Ubuntu, "Linux for human beings", sounded easy enough. Even though I went through my first circle of Hell trying to configure the OS with my laptop, especially the network card. King of ironic that internet connectivity is needed in order to get all the drivers and Howto's. Nowadays I'm working on a dual boot laptop, and also running vmware workstation to try out other OS's and recreate a virtual lab environment to test out servers, distros, and work with DEICE, webgoat all that fun stuff. I'm looking foward to work with novell and its netware. Hopefully one day I will realize that root is a state of mind; don't quote me on that because I didn't say it.
I can admire the fact that you have made all of these things available to you… part of your knowledge… through your own devotion and research. Working through the first circle of Hell is a natural step to becoming proficient in Linux; in Windows, it's more like the third or fourth circle, but equally as rewarding. VMWare is golden, and you have the right goals in mind.
Only thing left to say on what you've already said… is that you will most likely hate Novell's Netware and eDirectory. I did. The purpose of eDirectory is grand, but it is so detailed as to almost be painful… and the benefits are nearly transparent over the typical solutions in a non-mixed environment. You should definitely learn that on your own, though. Learn it all; it's all just waiting for you.
I hope to see you around the community more and helping the community as many of us do… by sharing information that others need. Also, I'm sure many of us would be willing to assist you in the same way. As is the golden rule with the forums, use them after you have exhausted your own methods. Welcome to HBH.

While I'm at it, I also would like to thank the HBH community. I have learned a lot since I came here from hackits.de and I would like to thank those of you that took to time to make this site and to basically "raise" some of the newer members here, such as myself.
