Wargames: The Dead Code
I just finished downloading this movie, and all I can say about this movie is damn stupid.
Honestly, an online game where people place bets according to amounts of kills obtained and then assumes the gamer with the highest score is a terrorist?
In that case, that'll be a lot of gamers hauled up by the feds and then almost everyone at hbh will be hauled either due to technical knowledge and skills, being in contact with other "terrorists" and for being in a specific country, race and religion.
The movie's a bit stupid, that's all in conclusion, don't bother even downloading it or buying the DVD when it comes out, and to tell you the truth I was expecting it to be good but my expectations are dashed.
The movie will star Matt Lanter as a computer whiz named Will Farmer who engages a government super-computer named R.I.P.L.E.Y. in an online terrorist-attack simulation game. Little does he know that the online game he plays is actually part of a sophisticated piece of U.S. government spyware designed to find potential terrorists. Homeland Security, now believing Farmer to be a terrorist, sets out to apprehend him… @Fuser: I didn't like it too.
It's a bit like this: In the war against terrorism, there is a government group that developed a supercomputer called ripley, and to find out the real terrorists, they created an online game site where these terrorists place bets, where if these guys get the highest amount of bets (up to millions) the agency can quickly assume the person playing it is a terrorist due to knowledge in weaponary, bio-chemical stuff, etc.
So enter our hacker hero, who wanted some quick cash so that he can follow this girl who liked him on a trip to Montreal. And he was in his basement with his friend, and he went out to greet his mom for a while, the friend sets the game so that he can get more cash (much to our hero's dismay) and then they got the max amount of kill that the RIPLEY actually shutdown, so you can guess what happens.
So the feds came a rolling, but the first person arrested was his syrian neighbour as he asked the cash to be placed in his neighbour's account.
This was soon followed by his friend's arrest (the one who set it to the highest amount) along with our hero's mom (she is a Biochemical engineer) so the fbi can say that:
a)he knows about bioweapons b)he has high knowledge in computers c)has contacts in syria d)is high risk
At this time our hero just arrived at Montreal with his girl, and I think that's enough for now, I'm still watching it.
edit: I just finished it, and it's fun to watch, but still stupid.
