Help with my sleep pattern

I know this sounds weird for a hacking site, but the truth is my sleep pattern has changed rapidly lately, and now going to bed at 4 am seems usual to me.

I noticed that it started when I went to live with my relatives during college break, where I lived with them for around 3 weeks. Since I'm pretty much away from my dad during this period, I simply turned downright hardcore with my computer time, with around 12-15 hours each day, which included internet surfing, watching and ripping DVDs, coding, downloading, chatting and gaming.

While it was fun for the holidays, the issue now is that I'm starting a new semester starting today, which presents quite a problem since I have to be up by 6.30 am each day. I've tried going to bed early, tried exercising more and avoided napping even though the fatigue is killing me, in short every tip except for taking sleeping pills.

So I was wondering if anyone here has any medical knowledge can tell me what I can do to help me get to bed in an earlier hour. I've tried to look for other solutions by reading medical books in the college library and looking for it over the internet, but to no avail.

I've gone to bed at 4 am and woke at 8 am every day of my life for the last…4 or 5 years. You just gotta train your mind and body to do whatever you want it to do, it will take some time. A sleeper gets nothing but a dream -me :p.

If you really feel as if you need something, take some valerian root or something, you can get them at GNC in pill form pretty cheaply.

there's a difference dude, I only got 2 and a half hours of rest while you got 4 hours.

And nice self-quote anyway.

If you want to go to sleep, take a book, any book, and start reading that (in bed) one hour before the time you actually want to sleep.

You'll probably end up reading the book for 1 hour (up to 4 hours if you like the book), but you -will- fall asleep in the end.

Really, the answer is exercise. Wear yourself out, if you sit on a computer all day and type, you're not gonna be very worn out. And btw, there's many many nights I got less than 4 hours or didn't sleep at all, you can't think about it too much or you won't be able to function out of tire. And drugs (like valerian or other drugs you can obtain on the black market :p) are not really the answer to your problems, it helps short term but you can't depend on them to get to sleep every night, because when you stop taking them you won't sleep; guarnteed. Buy some valerian, take a few pills at like 9-10 PM or whatever suitable time so that you can wake in the early morning and feel energized; just use it to get into a normal sleep pattern.

I tried that, and I've finished reading Machiavelli's The Prince, Stephen King's Misery, a book on Linux Systems Administration, a text book on Data Structures and Algorithms, a Biography on Juan Peron, and The Lord Of The Rings series. Yes, I did get tired, but it took quite a while.

Well… go to bed at the time you've been going to bed at. Set an alarm to wake you up at 6:30. So, now you've got 2 and a half hours of sleep. Don't nap, and do a lot of exercise, while not getting on the computer all day. Then lay in bed, with music or something, and you should be asleep in no time.

And actually when you do go to a clinic for sleeping problems like this they have you stay up later and later each night for like a week until eventually your back to going to bed at 10pm.

No, no, you got it all wrong! This is one of the pleasures of an uneventful summer. I've been doing this too. Went to sleep around 10 AM and got up about 6 PM.

My ideas are to go to sleep earlier gradually or stay up later gradually until it reaches the old pattern.

It seems to me days should run on a 32 hour schedule instead of 24. lol

i think you'll find that everyone (except maybe catholic) that has broken up from school/uni will being having the same sleepiong problems as you. I just woke up and i fell asleep at 6 am… no biggie.

my advice is fall asleep when you do, and just let your bodyclock wake you up.:D
