I have your IP!..now what?

Hi guys, after reading on all these different methods to btain someones IP address i was just wondering.. what can we actually do with this? I know in the films it seems to be that they just get the IP address and 'hack' the machine.

What can ACTUALLY be done?

You can put it in ip-adress. com or whatever it is and get a GENERAL location. It is not always accurate and can put you miles off course sometimes.

well basically if some ports are open ( e.g 31337 :D) then you can try to exploit them, mainly you wanna get root "privileges" ( how the hell do you spell that :D) from that 'rooting'… if you are able to do so, you can do basically anything, from moving files to favorite #rm -fr /

I think you can also try to DoS that box, but not sure, and sry if its total BS:)

You can also do a whois on the IP, which will show the registered information on the IP address such as location, the owner's name, etc.

In order to exploit a service running on a target's machine, you need to know the target's IP.

Just having the target's IP doesn't necessarily mean that you can actually hack the target, but without the IP you'll definately not be able to do it.
