when was the first time you were introduced to computers?
If I recall correctly, the first time I saw a computer was when I was 5 years old.
It was my dad's 486 laptop running Windows NT 3.1 (or I think it is NT 3.1)
Then when I was 6, I saw my cousin's Pentium PC running Win95, with a 56k internet connection (we're talking 1996 here) and I remember being scared seeing Quake for the first time.(I was 6 at that time, ok)
And finally I have my own pc at age 11, a Pentium3 (1GHz) with 128mb ram, 20gb hdd, 56k internet connection, but with Win ME.
And then I was introduced to Linux, programming and hacking at age 15, which coincides with the fact that we got broadband.
And now I have my own laptop, so I can just do whatever I like without anyone checking on me.
gd old windows 3.1!
i was with my dad trying to work out the new computer (windows 3.1), it would only load windows if you actually typed "windows" into cmd prompt. took us a a whole evening to work it out.
after a few weeks, i was a wiz at mine sweeper! I was about 6 or 7 at the time.
then as soon as we got windows 98 (i think i was about 9 or so?!).. i started my journey of programming in Q-Basic, making awesome stick men games!
We used to have an hour a day allocated to use our family mac (back in the PPC days). I used to love it, and I remember when I was about 9, my dad allowed me to use the BASIC program, so I guess that was my first experience programming, but I cant say I enjoyed it. Its only recently that programming has grown on me, with my beginning python.
That was it until I was about 14, when I built my first windows box, at the time I was well chuffed but in hindsight I wish I had installed *nix and got hacking!
My first…haha, thats hard to remember. It started when I was 6, my grandmother gave me a simple word processor. An old heap of junk that I didnt know had many functions. Not sure if that counts but the next day I saw her computer. She used it for her keyboard (musical instrument), to put music on her floppy disks and had no idea of its capabilities as I didn't either. Thought it was an advanced version of the word processor until I learned it was something much different.
My dad made a batch script in his old DOS box (which cost about a thousand dollars O.O) and taught me my alphabet that way. That was my first experience; I used to play Dig-Dug (actually thing the real name is 'digger') all the time, but I was never as good as him :D
Then we moved up to a Win98 box with 400MHz PII, 64MB, 6.5GB, and 56k modem. Man, those were the good 'ol days haha.
I only really started learning tons of new things when I built my own machine, based on AthlonX2 3.0GHz. First programming experience was TI-BASIC, now I'm learning PHP, C++, and z80 assembly.
Like mr cheese, my first experiences where using dos prompt to start programs. think i was 5/6.
Was funny having to type 'windows' on startup EVERYTIME.
Also had to boot from a floppy disk
I remember 'chips challange' in windows 3.1 was an awesome game.
Then at the age of 12 i had my first computer which was a laptop that had to be hooked upto a docking station because it was shite.
Then at 13 got my first computer in my room, running a cable from the phone to my room at night to go on then net.
Since then i stripped my computers and got new parts etc.
And now im off to uni to do computer security =]
My dad already had a Computer when i was born . He got it back in 1986. When i was 4 I remember playing games on it and when my dad got its pc from work <an old 286> i was playing easy games and playing with basic …
at my 6 we had 3 pc's at home and im doing this stupid commando FORMAT C: Y
I learned myself to install 3.11 and my dad never found out <Idid tell him, when i was 12> it was hard to learn btw, in the beginning, but library realy helps alot. at school killing PC's at my 8 where fun to btw. BUT REMEMBER, Skool dudes arent always smart. They wanne kill the messenger.
So, only tell them when yu sure u trust them. :ninja:
<btw, at my 7 i knew more about pc's than my dad. He isnt any Wizz at all, He's playing FSX. just that>
