Ending to the Internet??

I've recently heard that some people are saying that the Internet could come to an end hear in the next 4 or 5 years. The reason they say is the ever excessive downloading of videos on the Internet. They say that the amount of bandwidth taken up per day is increasing by millions each year and that it could bring an end to the Internet itself. There are many culprits of this and Youtube leads the pack. I've done research on google for the topic but to no luck. The only other bit i've seen of this was published in a magazine called Interhack and the topic was, "Ending to the Internet"?

I thought i'd make it news to this community as well. Please give your feedback and tell if you think this is possible?

do you actually beleive that this would ever happen there is so much the internet is used for and its functioning right now isnt it so obviously the excessive bandwith is not doing any harm and so many people benifit from the internet sales on the internet bring in billions a year and theres email and so much other things they just like to talk alot of shit to scare people into not downloading so much its all bullshit

@ op, There are a couple things I know of that you might find interesting.

1. quantom computing. I have a question about that, if anyone is semi-familiar with it.

2. Net Nutrality. I think this would mostly only hurt the mainstream.

3. Also there was an idea to charge based on bandwidth. Because a lot of our news, email providers, etc are owned by the same conglomerates, some people really hated the idea.

Point being that as long as big companies can continue to whore money off of anything and everything on the internet it will never die. The compensation in value is enough to handle everything

If the internet ends, it will be for one of two reasons.

1. The Earth, and all living mater on it has been destroyed.
2. Something better then the internet is taking its place.

the internet very well could end. im not saying it will or wont, but dont simply assume it wont end. history has shown that to be poor judgement. years ago it was said we would never need more than 1M of ram.. they were wrong, people thought trains would be the dominate form of transport… they were wrong, rome thought it would never come to an end… they were wrong.

so just because it is big and great and wonderful like it is… it doesnt mean it CANT end.

Of course the internet will end. The question is not if, the question is when. Death of the internet is as certain as your own death.

The fact that technology is advancing means the internet's end is more likely, if anything. We'll produce something better to replace it. It sounds lametarded, but I'm tired.

but the idea of internet is highly unlikely to die…

the attempt to transfer data, concepts or others, faster and more efficiently will never die…

when internet dies, although i highly doubt it will happen, it will be replace by something else…..

hahaha watch a little Live Free Die Hard 4 lately? lol so… to my understanding…in hacking/computers EVERY QUESTION ASKED about something on this site…i always heard….in technology anything is possible (or something along those lines…) BUT when someones threats what we live on its suddenly unbreakable and omnipotent hahahaha pretty funny if you ask me…

like richohealey said before.. ARPANET was replaced by internet and internet will be replaced.. it might be in 4 years like the original post said but it could also be more or less.. you never really know with these kind of things..

I'm glad we have people on here that actually know what their talking about..richo..samurai…so on.. Too many of you idiots don't even research or think about the topic before you post. The internet could end and one day it might. JUst thought i'd see what HBH thought.
