Computer Shop Application
Well this summer I am hoping to find a part time job at a local computer shop. Now I'm not even sure if any will be hiring but as time gets near to may, I'll be looking around. I'm hoping that this will give me even more experience in the field of computers and help me later on in life when I try to obtain a career(I'm in my first year of university currently)
I was just wonder though, what kinds of things would(or should) someone need to know for a job in a general computer shop that you might find around. This information will allow me to focus some of my learning in those fields to help me with obtaining a job.
Thanks to anyone who gives me any input. ~ShapeShifters
well, i applied and was accepted at one, but when he said 7 or 8 dollars an hour I thought 'F that!' and declined.
Basically, all they did was virus removal and Windows installations and hardware replacement… not even repair. it was a really crappy shop; I knew more than the owner/operator/CEO!
Just think about what a person would bring in a box for, and how many of their problems you could fix. That should be plenty; you don't need to be Cisco certified to work in a repair shop :D
well it depends on what the job on offer is.
if it's a technical one, you probably need some qualifications, maybe take a technician's course.
if it's a data entry job (like the one i got) it's nothing more but stare at a monitor, keying in invoices, checking stocks, pretty boring job, to be honest.
it depends, do you really want the job?
if you want to look impressive, you could say something like "I'm trying to save up some money so I can get 'certificates (of mastery) in *****' "
where ***** = xhtml/html, css, php, sql, CPR (yes cpr like breathing) blah, blah, yatta, yatta…
Or something like that.
Hmm that could also be a good idea perhaps. I'll have to give it some thought lol.

Well I suppose you could say I do but I also don't think it's that big of a deal. It's only going to be a summer job and probably close to minimum wage pay. I also have another job lines up that I almost certainly will get(because I've worked there before). So you could say that I'd be happy if I get it, but I wont be sad if I don't.
yeah I think I probably just will go for it. I'll say stuff like this will give me great experience for the future and I love learning and all that if I happen to get an interview and we'll see if I get it lol
Still thinking of getting that A+ Certificate though, that could be useful in the future. I dislike how it's like 150+ dollars to write it though(According to a site I looked at).
yeah the A+ is kind of spendy but if you get it your almost guaranteed a job at any repair shop lol i dont have one yet but i do work for a repair shop/ network set up really all you need to know is how to install windows take off viruses and replace parts. this is because people fuck up there computers beyond bellief one other thing you should know how to do is backing up there systems with a knoppix disk
