I play casually, though the other day i was playing against a friend and a competitive player came by and asked to play against the winner. i won so i played him and i beat him quite elegantly, so i might join a club…

I play chess casually for the moment, when I was younger I played it quite a lot, last year I won the school tournament, I've beaten them quite easily because they weren't too good.

I like to play on a server called Chess Assistant - you can download the user interface at www.chessok.com.

Just to mention a few of their great fetchers: the chess is free, there is a wealth of various strengths, and you can chat to each other. It is better than cough ICC cough playchess.com.:)

Last year I played more, but that slowed down. I was in the chess club, beat my teacher after a while. Played in a nice sized tournament and placed first. Won a membership into the USCF and could have gone to rated games to be rated in the United States. But my downfall at the time was I didn't have a car, and the rated tournaments were quite some distance away. Might pick it back up if I get some decent players to play VS.

I do play chess, do rock also, but sometimes play badly =D

For me, playing it on board is #1, then playing on computer, after that, playing on a server!

I believe having an inconsistent skill level in chess isn't exactly "rock".

Difference? By computer you mean offline Chessbot or something? And by server you mean playing over the internet VS a human player? You can play against AI's via servers too, you know.

Yes, by computer, I mean off-line; "server", I mean on a website, facing people. Whatever, I just like the non-electronic chess!

I play chess both casually and competitively. Currently rated 1714 USCF; haven't been to a tourney in years, though.

I have no fear… you know that. Just let me know what size gun you're bringing so I can go buy a bigger one. ;)

A comment like that irritates me. Chess is a great game. It promotes new ways to think, as well as exercises the brain. What is lame about that? Sure it is lame if you simply just move the peaces with out giving much thought to your moves. The more your skill level progresses, the more you tend to think more.

My friends in high school were in the first team (rugby), and they disagreed me playing chess. Just because it is not physical does not mean it is lame; Stop sticking with this stereotype. After all, hacking is not a physical activity. It too promotes a different type of thinking.

edit: Note that I am a rugby fanatic, I played a bit in high school. Oh, whilst the subject of rugby has been mentioned: Hurray for the spring boks (South Africa for those who don't know), I knew were going to win the world cup.

I wouldn't take what he said too seriously. It sounded pretty lighthearted to me. shrug, it's all based on how you want to interpret it.

Don't jump to conclusions you retard, just because your friends in school said they disliked chess coz it's not physical, doesn't mean I think the same thing, I think it sucks because to be honest it's rather pointless, sitting at a table moving some little pieces across a board, for some whacky reason that just doesn't interest or excite me in the slightest.

Edit: fixed quotes.

Well, We can agree that I think chess is great and you think chess is not so great. The thing that fired me up is when you said "Play a real game like rugby," as if chess is not a real game? You should understand that if you insult something that someone really likes, they are going to defend that something.
