we recieve these errors when booting linuxrc; linuxrc: 156: cannot create union/etc/fstab: direcotry nonexistant and then linuxrc: exec: 186: /usr/bin/chroot: not found and then Kernel panic - noy syncing: attempted to kill init! Someone with linux experience please help we have googled and are having lots of problems.

It seem to be a initrd image problem. Any hint how to solve this?

I'm assuming you're using a native install and not a live cd right? What distro/kernel is it?

Also, if you're using a native install….boot with a live cd and put up the contents of your grub/lilo config.

You might also try upgrading your initrd-tools if you just did a dist. upgrade or used a package manager like Synaptic to attempt a full system upgrade.
