I am running windows XP sp2 on my laptop. Recently when i tried to boot it up i got this message.

This application has failed to start because MSVCP60.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.

I tried booting into safemode and last known good configuration. Didnt work. I got the same error. I tried putting "damn small linux" on my flash drive and booted from my it. It worked but i was not able access the hard drive to replace the file. Does anyone know of any Live USB program that will allow me to access the hard drive and replace the file? any help will be appriciated :D

http://www.google.nl/search?q=MSVCP60.dll

Did you check /mnt/ in DSL? Anyway, any live CD should do the trick. You can download the dll file manually and hope that it's the only thing missing, or, you can re-install windows (or any other OS).

Boot from USB. Change boot order in BIOS (put USB on top) and insert and live distro.

Dsl usually automounts partitions it can see on bootup, if not, lookup the unix command 'mount' ('man mount' from the terminal)

If you can't boot to recovery console because your optical drive isn't working, try using a SATA USB adapter and replace the file from another computer….or put the drive in another system and sfc /scannow
