Rooting

I only just started rooting, well if you can call what iv done so far rooting lol.. Iv recently read an article for rooting for begginers and downloaded nmap and putty. i found an open port and then entered it on putty and the black screen came up with a green square in the corner of it.

In the article, at the end it says sopmething along the lines of after you have that screen up the world is at your feet, i beleive implieing that i can do anything? any way what do i do when the black screen is up with a green square in the corner??
