Can we use proxies in a dial-up connection & how can we configure it with the browser (Opera or Firefox)?

Yes you can.Quite simply

to find a proxy goto google and search for "proxy list". There a differnt ahh. err Forms of proxies,some change you ip,some change your ip but still forward your original ip and others just done.

you need High annonymity proxies. The proxy can be set in firefox under tools - options-general-connection settings

also proxies can be chained together in your url bar like so

http://proxy.com:80/http://proxy2.com:80/http://proxy3.com:8000/http://site.com
