ok, at school we have a proxy. i used cmd prompt to make an admin account for the comp i was on. but i didnt have internet and in my network account i couldnt access IE to check IP/port setting so i got firefox and imported the IE setting got the IP and port andthen used it on my admin account and i got the internet. ALSO on admin i can install stuff so we got 3 clasrooms to install CS on there comps and we lanned it. it worked perfect. we allso had access to the internet like IE worked. and obviously the lan worked as we were playing CS together.

i was just wondering how come i cant find servers online and also now i can edit the proxy and ip setters and poort settings can i acces any site on the web, i tryed using a proxy IP but then my net stops working again.

you just need to track down some nameservers.

google for them then drop them into the DNS servers field in network settings…

Well, you technically have access to "any site", regardless, by IP address. DNS resolves domain names to IP addresses. No offense, but I find it rather odd that you can do workarounds on a network and don't know what DNS does.

Anyways, if you can't get to Network Connections to set the DNS server, you could try the registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters

I know there's a CS LAN version which only supports LAN and not internet games, but it's not very common… :p

i googled nameservers and got a whole bunch of free DNS stuff, i can actually get into network connections to edit the DNS so are u asking me to like get the IP for myspace for eg and put it in the DNS thing, cause i could just ping it in command prompt would that work?

also while googling it i found a site that told me my DNS or so it said. it told me my ip at school was was

124.171.213.232

and my Reverse DNS was 124.171.213.232.dyn.iinet.net.au

can this be valuable? and yeah it is odd kinda. to be honest i dont know much about comptuers i just fluke it lol, but it keeps people happy.
