well, basically you need: motherboard graphics card CPU ram case

and screen, mouse, display whatever.

best place to buy is probably newegg or dabs.com

t's pretty easy to do, the components slot together like lego really ;)

just make sure you get the right CPU for your motherboard socket type.

Ok, get the mother board and case from the same manufacture (so you can be sure they fit and work right) After you have found your MB read the manual.. no use in buying parts that wont work in it right? Once you read the manuel and have made notes about what it can and cannot support find CPU RAM CDROM and a video card if its not built in or if you want a better one. You may also need to get a sound card if that is not built into the mother board. Then you will either want to get everything professionally installed or by a anti-static mat.. This is not necessary but if your building a good computer you dont want to fry $200+ equ. while installing it… Also you may have to get a new power supply. ,4w4k3

Ok, get the mother board and case from the same manufacture (so you can be sure they fit and work right) they usually aren't made by the same people, except for gigabyte maybe

I actually suggest that you decide what CPU and graphics card you want, and then purchase a motherboard based on those decisions, since you're usually going to spend maybe 5 as much on the components than the motherboard itself.

Also most ATX motherboards will fit in any case that supports the ATX standard, except some smaller cases may not be wide enough for a tall HSF, and may not be long enough for a large graphics card :)
