JTR Problem
right well i got a few things i need to crack but everytime i try use JTR they just dont work..
here is wat im entering
John-386 -w:wordlist.txt pass.txt
so when i press enter it just goes
for example Loaded 1 password hash (Traditional DES [24/32 4K]) guesses: 0 time: 0:00:00:00 100% c/s: 194187 trying: raiders - zhongguo
and then nothing else!! any ideas of what is wrong. ive also tried "–single" crack but again same problem, and the ones im trying to crack apparently need a wordlist to crack them so bruteforcing would take aaaaaaaages.
any help would be greatly apricated! :-)
I'm not sure if my reply is in the right place, but why don't you try Cain and Abel. Download it from:

Dude, don't post about what you don't know.
It makes you look a fool, jtr supports a DES a hashtype that C doesn't (don't install able, it's a trojan anyway).

Ok, in my opinion, The program then can't find the hash, then use a much nicer wordlist… This is the way i see it.
nah, the issue is its in the cracking progress…pressing anykey in the cracking progress will let you see where has it gone, and if you need to abort just press CTRL+C
Quoted From JTR's Doc:
While cracking, you can press any key for status, or Ctrl-C to abort the session saving its state to a file ($JOHN/john.rec by default). If you press Ctrl-C for a second time before John had a chance to handle your first Ctrl-C, John will abort immediately without saving. By default, the state is also saved every 10 minutes to permit for recovery in case of a crash.
