Hello From Me

I joined this site several months ago, and played with a few of the basic missions.

I'm very new to hacking, and the security scene as a whole.

I have to say that my main reason for being here is to learn how to create adequate defences for my own projects, rather than to gain access to anyone elses. I think im probably a little old for starting any blackhat activities. (yes im an old git)

I grew up in the 90's & at the age of 12 I was creating and editing batch files in DOS & hacking the school computer system on it "oh so advanced" windows 3.x.

It was all harmless stuff, and i never really learnt to program anything.

Around the age of 16 i started to notice those bumpy bits on girls & all thoughts of computers where extinguioshed from my mind, as i spent the following 7 years drinking and screwing my way through college and university… fun… but not so productive.

As a child I allways wanted to program computer games, I was talked out of this by my pearents, and effectivly forced into "business school" (hence the need for alchohol).

2 years ago I decided I wasnt happy with my life, I decided that I needed to be good at something, I needed something to define me as a person.

I decided to learn to code ……… GASP :o

I started small, beginnning by teaching myself xhtml & CSS, learning on my own via W3Schools.com & some ripped lynda vids :ninja:

Pretty soon i became proficciant with both of these scripting languages and building static web pages was tedius, along came PHP & MySQL ….

I now find myself in a position where in just under 18 months I havetaught myself XHTML CSS Php & MySQl to what i consider an acceptable level for web development, I also understand some (basic) Java, and a little Python.

So, why am i here?

Well, I'm currently developing a rather intense website (in terms of code), and it needs to be secure….. I have books telling me to escape this and suppress that, but in my experiance, the only way to learn to do something is to actually get off ur lazy ass and do it. :o

I'm likley to have alot of questions over the next few weeks and months as this "old dog" starts to learn the ropes, and I really hope this is the place to be.

I guess my first question would be something of a simple one;

Q: Is there any way of testing a Proxies integrety without having to load it into firefox first? …. I'm having alot of issues finding a decent one, would save vast ammounts of time if i could check them without going through all of those menu's (ok 2 menu's :p)

Long post for such a short question i know, but i've never really introduced myself before, and thought id take the oppurtunity.

Apoligies for the sp keith

I wrote it for the same reason you read it ….. I'm bored.

If you think that constitutes a life story however… i feel sorry for you.

ok its not a life story but it probably qualifys a brief overview

all i can say is stick with it because from what u said you are quite experianced on computers os you should rise through the ranks quite quickley

Thanks for the vote of confidence keith ….. I guess my main concern is that im probably a fair bit older than your average hacker.

But still…. ill give it a good go, its amazing what you can teach yourself when you really want to learnn :)

from what u said u must be in your 20's so your not that old

hackers arnt just teenagers (tho most are) so your probably about 10yrs or so older than most here and you are able to do the basics unlike most members on this site as i imagine about 5-10 thousand of the members on this site had a go, gave up and went to do summit else

Hey acurex. I think that if you wanna make sure your site is secure and learn about all of that stuff. Do the basic and js challenges on here, and do the patching. I think that'll help you A LOT on keeping your own sites secure.
