Dam AOL
Hey, recently i have learnt about real rooting from a mate with nmap, putty and all that crap but my stupid isp (AOL) are so security consious that they block hacking attempts e.g rooting so i was wondering if anyone knew a way of…um i dont know how to put this…sort of change AOLs settings so it allows this sort of thing for me. Thanks
dude i know exactly how u feel, im with aol 2. They suck at everything:P. The only help i can give u is to turn off all antivirus/antispyware progs and get Opera. Besides that, u should cancel your subscription and get a different isp (which im doing in a few monthes).
However if anyone does have suggestions, i would be very happy to listen to them as well.
So far i havent really found a way because 90% of all routers dont work with AOL. The only things i could think of would be a)leave comp on and connection connected (although half the time the shitty modem they give u isnt working) or b)get one of the routers that work with them (even though they're all 802.11b).

Tiscali is a cheap UK ISP, or even Orange.
dont get tiscali - i have them and i am currently enjoying my bittorrent connection at D: 0.1Kb/s / U: 0.2kb/s
ps i have a btvoyager105 from AOHELL when we had it and I found a way to get straight on the net without the sh*tty AOHELL software:
1] launch the stupid CD you got with AOL, 2] open up taskmanager and end-task the flash installation thingy 3] start > my computer > right-click the CD drive and click on 'explore' 4] you should see an app called modem driver install or something like that - cant quite remember. Once modem drivers are installed - you need to go back into taskmanager again and end - task the flash installation crap. 5] start > my computer > my network places (left hand side) > view network connections (also on left hand side) > create new connection (also on left hand side) > next > connect to internet > choose set up manually > broadband connection that requires user and pass > type in 'pimp my AOHELL' > type in your email, password > add shortcut to desktop. 6] my computer > C:/ > documents and settings > (your username) > startmenu > programs > startup > place desktop icon in here
thats you set up - only thing left to do is to find and delete anything remotly AOL related - defrag, scrub, wash, registry clean etc, etc. then youve got a perfectly good connection without the restricting software :)

I have an AOL connection and i have it frigged so that you never have to load that annoying aol bull program up.
Basically get a decent router … a belkin is a good choice imho ;)
Then, create a new screenname … keep it shory, no more than 5 alphanumeric chars, same with the password.
Set your router up to connect using this account… remember AOL uses PPOE.
You should find that your router will auto connect to the aol service when you boot up……. depending on your kit you may have to tweak some other things… but in all honesty i actually found the AOL live help technmical guys remarkably "helpfull" in debugging mine.
good luck
