something iv been thinking about for a while…..if you can get root on a computer whats there stopping you jacking the power up, turning the fan off ect…. that could cause some serious damage

not sure if it is possible but just an idea

uuuh kid you don't know what you're on about. your hard drive has no laser in it. for a while there was a virus called medusa that increased clock speed, vid card speed, ram speed, CPU and ram voltage, and just about everything it could, including in some cases monitor temp, while disabling fans and high temp warnings, however in light of this hardware safety's are now built in that prevent this kind of attack. it used to be feasible to burn a hole through the top of a CD burner, until similar safeguards were introduced.

It's possible to overheat the CPU I guess - but it wouldn't explode (at least not violently) or anything. But that would only fry the computer, not actually make it a potent weapon I wonder if it would be possible to change the voltage switch on the back of the power supply through software…? ;)

Errm you're HD works with positive and negative magnetic charges, not with lasers :S

Lol and what s with the coming within 2 digits of that russian security code? Even jst 8 digits usually takes years to crack, 87 would probably take longer than our galaxy exists o.0
