Say i obtain someones ip address and i have a port scanner… and i find out what ports are open.

What ports are useful and how could they be exploited?

Im pretty new to pc security etc but i'll hopefully understand most things.

Just google for some info about the port/service you find open. But don't think it will go smoothly ;)

I find IPs hilarious for scaring computer illiterate people.

True conversation between me and my friend:

Me: I know your IP. It's (whatever the IP was) Them : OMG!!?!?! WTF!!! PLZ DONT H4XX0R ME!

yeah im starting to think that an ip is pretty useless to have… but if anyone knows of any tutorials on using an ip then post them up please… cheers!

if the IP address is dynamic then it would be useless to you as its different everytime they connect to the internet.

That's like asking what to do with someone's postal address. Nobody can tell you in one post how to be a hacker. Once you have somebody's address (IP), I guess some questions are in order:

What is your GOAL in breaking in? How much access do you NEED to achieve that goal?

Your success will depend on how high your goals are and how well you know their system and it's weaknesses. This is where subtle probing and lots of research will help, determining how secure the box is and what (exploitable) services they may be running. As you become more advanced, your goals will become larger. The amount of research you need to do will never decline, it will just become more specialised. Learn to use Google well.

Regards.

It is far from useless, it is the key to gain access to someone's pc, right? You can port-scan for open ports indeed, but the exploits, you will have to find out yourself ;). There a very many ways to gain access to someones pc, exploiting open ports is just one of them.. link:http://netsecurity.about.com/cs/hackertools/a/aa121303.htm ^^ Check it out ^^ Ciao..
