Irc proxy and wingate

For some time ive been trying to get a grasp on being apple to connect to irc throug proxy and/or wingate. All of this should not be very hard but for some reason i dont get it.

In irc i am going to the options panel and under firewall there is an option were i can choose socks4, socks5 or proxy, i assume that i have to choose proxy there right?

what am i supposed to choose under firewall support.

and ive someone would tell me about how to connect through irc with a wingate i would just be so happy.
