Question About Tracing....
Hmm… I was just wonder if it's possible to trace this method…
Here's my plan
-
Either do some war driving on my laptop or sit outside a starbucks and connect to their wireless signals
-
Set up a proxy
-
Do some dirty work
-
leave
Would it be possible for them to trace the proxy, somehow obtain records of the true ip, find out it was a starbucks or faked connection, see the computer name/id/mac or w/e, then somehow trace that over the internet?
Or is would this be a pretty fool proof method of anonymity?
As far as I see it, you're safe so long as you remember to spoof your MAC address. That way, if somehow they decided to do a sweep of every MAC address connected to any router in the area for that time, you'd pretty much be anonymous.
Granted, you also make sure you disable, or at least mask any information your computer puts out. You can usually check this using a packet sniffer.
I like the mac spoofing idea ;)
And another cool idea would be to build something like this,

So you could be miles away from the wireless your using and you'd have many more connection choices ;D
