gotta question

hey i've been coming to this site for over about a month. i've been reading all the articles and find them quiet entertaining/educational… gotta question, and it seems to be slander here… im not going to ask "how do i hack" that's something i want to find out on my own…but my question is…where do i get started?? can some one not show me how? but point me to the right direction?
