cracking in shell

If I connect in some server on port ftp (i write this) ftp ftp> open (to) xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx then i need password. can i crack it with john the ripper and how, if not can you tell me some good passwd cracker.

Thats kinda (skiddy) like… there are many programs that will crack passwrords…. *** I used to use brutus when i was a skiddy*** now i do it the real way Exploits and Holes!!! I suggest you learn some of this before you go thinking your 1337 using programs!!!!

when i do this (in shell linux ubuntu) ftp ftp> open (to) 87.106.143.53 (hellboundhackers.org) then i connect and type ls then it asks for passwd how to crack it(please just give me useful cracker for ubuntu i will study it) just tell me how to crack this kind of passwds

As someone already stated, you need the password hash in order to bruteforce it. Otherwise you might have to use some kind of exploit or (don't do this) a bruteforce.

i dont want to leave i like ALMOST everybody here and if you want to know a also learned a lot by myself when i found this site was thinking that you will help me find some answers that i could not found.so thats why started so many forum questions. Many people help on the internet, see it is not about helping people at all to most of them, it is solving the puzzle. and since ur question is a bit …. lets say a skiddie question….. not only that it's also unknown what you want to do with your knowledge if you have it. And the answer to this question is easy and known (which means you could have googled it by now).

yes sorry about the question maybe i am looking at wrong place. sorry about hard reading text i was pissed. and i have to say sorry to you richohealey, but i dont like when people shit on me because of some stupid things (because i am a noob i this case). when i wrote 87.106.143.53 (hellboundhackers.org) to root i just wanted some more points(i saw that people get points when become admin on this site) so i just tried something (and i also wanted to know how to crack passwd in shell) but when i tried to hack this site i didnt want to do anything(even if i could do that:D:D) i often hack my friends PC and they know that i wouldnt do anything i just make txt file and write in "i was here". i just want to hack it nothing more (like deleting, steeling or putting files or viruses.

btw: rooting the hellboundhackers.org ftp account should be difficult (They are using ProFtpD 3) although i read about some vulnerable xss using TRACE that seems to be on…..

First off jtr is for cracking hashes not finding passwords for sites. Getting the password for any ftp or control panel takes alot more skill than I think you have or are ready for. There is NO GUI program that you can click "HACK" on and get into a site. You have alot of learning ahead of you, And noone here is going to spoonfeed you an answer so start researching.

hmm he was told to look for exploits instead of using bruteforce i told him that should be hard because of proftpd 3.0 (milw0rm says remote buffer overflow, but he doesn't want to do that) ….
