the ITs at my school are idiots
ok, so i just realized i can access any file (not folder, but file) on the computer. its actually the easiest, simplest thing i've seen. i open a folder, go new/shortcut. from there, i can open anything i want as long as i know the path.:D
any good suggestions on what to open and play with?
i already shut down Vision, so i dont have to worry about being monitored. i've tried services.msc, but i cant do anything b/c of privilege restrictions. winchat doesnt seem to work at all (never really used it, so idk how to use it lol)

Just like the Notepad File, Open exploit or pretty much any other function that gives you the Browse option. So, it's not that you can ACCESS any file… it's that you can VIEW any file. As for the ones you can access, they are limited by your privilege. Also, judging by your post, I'm guessing privilege escalation is over your head.

You know, it's funny, there are a bunch of little shits like you in high school talking crap about the IT staff. Sure, they're lazy and don't pay enough attention, yet here you are insulting them when you don't even know what the hell to do with your "freedom".
Tell you what… figure out what you can access, take notes, determine a plan of attack (a target), determine your path to that, and do it. There's no magic file in Windows that you can access (without admin rights) that automagically nukes the network… contrary to what you might be hoping for. Do your homework, and you will be rewarded. Otherwise, you're just as much of an idiot as you think your IT people at school are.

There's bucketloads of these little bitches in my programming class. "Hay rawb, lookit I gots command prawmptz I is leet lololol. Hay rawb, lookit I'm getting adminz with teh AT commandz lolololol. Hay rawb, hay rawb, hay rawb."
It's an endless stream of garbage.
You know what they'd do once they finally got an account in the Administrator group?
Go around and talk about how they got an account in the Administrator group.
Not a fucking clue what they're doing.
@OP Looking at files is cool, yes. Believe me, people leave things lying around that they shouldn't. I've found a private staff handbook on my school's network, along with medical records, and other interesting things. What you've discovered is useless, though, because no matter what souper pr0 shortcutz you make, your user permissions will remain the same. If a file isn't meant for you, you can't read it when you're YOU, if you get what I mean. If you're someone else, that's something different.
Keep at it, and please, don't be one of the little command prompt bitches.
yeah… i dont care about hacking any networks, i could care less about ruining anything. i just want something to play around with, but i dont know where to look.
and just a question… how long ago was it when you were "little shits" and needed help with something? how did you get your help? yeah, thats why im here: to get help from people who know what theyre doing. i obviously dont know what to do, so a little help would be nice.

I like how people come on here, do one challenge so they can post, and talk out of their ass. You don't care about hacking any networks because you could care less about ruining anything? Hacking does not explicitly involve damage or destruction… before you even start learning, you need to learn THAT lesson. It's the pursuit of knowledge… nothing more. Maybe if you did more of the challenges on this site, you'd realize that no actual destruction occurs… only the discovery of techniques to "bend the rules".
As for where to look, "everywhere" is the correct answer, because you'd want to be thorough in exploring. Starting out, maybe %SystemRoot% first.

Never. I learned just like most of the people on here… through personal experience and trial / error. I found my own privilege escalations in school, I got in trouble plenty of times for being stupid and not covering my tracks / being covert, and that was the best way to learn.
It's obvious that you don't know what to do… in fact, it's obvious that you don't know what you WANT to do. So, how can we tell you what to do if you don't have a particular goal in mind? That is why I said, earlier, that there is no magic file in Windows. You figure out your goal and you'll know your target.
This thread is over until you learn what a hacker really is and figure out what your goal is in your current pursuit. Otherwise, you're just another useless poster.
zephr, that post you just made isnt really going to help. a protest against noobs never helped them.
i agree with the figure out what you want to achieve bit, but you can research that through google, HBH, maybe asking members in a more reasonable way next time wafter actually bothering to do some research. then youll get constructive responses.
mr noob wrote: this is just my opinion, but noobs need to be told where to look just to start them off. if someone comes on and asks a dumb question like "how do i hack windows" even if its easy to answer, tell them its a dumb question and point them in a direction.
He needs to come to the table with more than "is there anything interesting I should play with?". However, since I try to be fair in the way that I address things, I will follow your suggestion.
To the OP, it's a dumb question. In fact, I'm questioning whether it even counts as a question. That being said, here's your direction:

There.
mr noob wrote: zephr, that post you just made isnt really going to help. a protest against noobs never helped them.
I'm not protesting against noobs, for the record. I have nothing against noobs… everyone starts as a noob. It's how each noob decides to handle being one that I dislike. He does one challenge to get to post a question in the forum, and the question is one that has no answer. It's like asking this: "Hey, I just got a new computer and powered it on. What's something interesting for me to look at?"
How many of these pointless threads have to occur before the posting requirements are increased?

Completely agree!
I was a n00b not so long ago. some may still think i am but n00bs asking questions wich are near impossible to answer need to be flamed and them flamed again and then pointed in the right direction.

He didn't get flamed for asking questions. Really, he hasn't even been flamed yet. Everything up til now has been reasonable.
If he WERE to be flamed, though, it would be because his question wasn't anywhere close to being specific. If it had even been "how can I get admin access on this Windows machine", it would been better than just nothing; of course, I'm not implying that he would've received MUCH better of a response on that. It depends on how he asks the question.
"Noobs" have to realize that they are only noobs until they learn how to ask questions correctly; then, they're "learning". If they want the knowledge, the people here are ready to impart it… they just have to quit being so daft and get to the point.
seeing as nobody is actually giving the newb an answer (he's a newb, NOT a n00b!), imma gonna do it for you guys. another example of everyone flaming so they look cool. lol. sure.
darkaa, read up on the SAM file and what it does and how to access it. maybe you could copy it over to a flash drive or something and play with it at home.

that is, if there's not a network admin (SAM really only helps with individual boxes, but even if you get admin on that one box, you could figure something out from there).
peace bro

Nobody's giving him an answer because he's not asking a real question. Asking for "something to play with / look at" in Windows is like asking what interesting stuff you'll find on the Internet. Plus, he has the audacity to call the IT people at his school idiots when, in fact, he's the one that doesn't know shit about computers. Like I said, he hasn't even gotten flamed yet… he's just not getting his hand held by anyone except you.

If that helps him, good. Maybe it will inspire him to learn more. Of course, if the systems don't use LM hashing (which can easily be disabled on a network), then the SAM file is not nearly as useful (NTLM hashes are MUCH harder to crack).
Anyways, I figured I already made my advice clear. First, the OP needs to have some respect for his opposition; doing otherwise will make him sloppy. Second, the OP needs to learn about the target. If he doesn't know crap about Windows, then you could give him the admin password to everything and he still wouldn't be able to do anything.
yeah, ignore this thread. i made a new one with an actual question and i have actual answers. http://www.hellboundhackers.org/forum/viewthread.php?forum_id=14&thread_id=10127

How come every time you post something… it bothers me? Yes its great to help people. It's also great to help yourself. The people you're asking "how long ago was it you were "little shits"" are people who've actually done the work instead of just asking for help. You should do the work yourself and then when you do have a question you'll actually know what you're meaning to ask…
