Polish police yesterday arrested a 14-year-old schoolboy for endangering public safety when he hacked the Lodz tram system and disrupted traffic.

Using a TV-style remote control he built himself, Adam Dabrowski allegedly changed the points on the city's tram system. This derailed some tram cars, causing them to crash and injure up to 12 passengers.

A police spokesman said Dabrowski had studied the trams and the tracks for a long time and had converted the TV control into a device capable of controlling all the junctions on the line. He had listed in a school exercise book the best junctions to switch trams and what signals to change.

Teachers described Dabrowski as a model pupil and an electronics genius.

@c4p_sl0ck: I've already told you; it was your father who did this and put the blame on the kid :D

while i believe that it was a terrible thing to do, i have to respect the kid. it's pretty amazing for a 14 year old. if time gives him maturity he could be a great hacker one day.

@Cheese: That's the reason people call it "systems" or "boxes".

That's pretty awesome, but for the injures. To quote that guy from Forest Gump "Shit happens." Also It makes me wounder how he did it, for the mean time I'll go sit in a corner and think.;)

He kind of reminds me of myself in a way :) No shit, the kid deserves respect and i think that's incredible. The part about the passengers, on the other hand, isn't cool.

That is genius!! Really sucks ass for the passengers though. I know it is possible to hack t television remote to control traffic lights, I have not done that (yet) , but my friend Anthony has.. That kid must have been pretty smart.. But this is what gives hackers a bad name, just like DBDWarrior said.
