well, this doesn't really surprise me. and that's not a Microsoft flame actually, but what better way to make sure everyone is running genuine copies? and think about it, if your video game ran a diagnostic every time you connected to the online server (which many do….plus patches…something Microsoft also sends out) you wouldn't mind because "I want my games to run correctly," but when its Microsoft: "call the authorities…..violation of privacy!" It doesn't say its taking files, URL, key logging (like vista may be, i think) its some BIOS settings, hardware hashes, and Product ID numbers. Nothing really private there. Some may argue "it's the principal of the matter," but really…who gives a damn if Microsoft is checking your hardware hashes and running a diagnostic on itself, it could probably use one.

they start with that and if you let them theyll end up taking more private information. after all, whos gonna stop them? we only know this because of a 'leak' from inside MS…
