HBH Down Monday - February 05, 2007

You may have seen the "Down for maintence" notice on all pages. This doesnt usally happen where HBH has to close down for a day to do maintence and tweaks, but this time the tweaking and mods we had to do woudlnt of been possible with HBH online.

This was due to certain $_SERVER / $_COOKIE variables being tweaked, and new features installed; we didnt want them to be flooded with requests whilst we were still coding them!

Majority of time HBH developers work on hbh whilst its still "live", <span class='small'>(you may see the occasional error on a page, refresh and its not there.. this is the hbh dev's forgetting to put a stupid ; at the end of a php line!) But this time the coding we had to do woudlnt of worked if HBH was online.

The server host also made us move servers to one that has fewer high bandwidth accounts (will make hbh run a tiny bit faster). So we figured, we might aswell kill 2 birds with 1 stone. HBH would of been offline for a few hours anyway with the server change, so we figured we'll do the tweaking at the same time. You may also notice the database rollback, only by a few hours, but still some may be affected. This was also due to the server change. But its only a few hours so not to worry.

We were only down for 24 hours, but we're are back! We've opened the site an hour early than planned, we tried to work quickly to get it online as soon as we could!

There may also be some more of these short downtimes over the next couple of months. This is due to the boost in HBH coding, developing and patching etc. So sorry for any inconvience caused, although it is annoying not having hbh online for a day, its better in the long run.
