The Outbreak of 'Chat-Hackers'
The Outbreak of 'Chat-Hackers'
First of all, I will admit I\'ve been in the whole digichat \"hacking\" scene, been a false admin a few times, flooded constantly, etc, but really what point is there in ruining other people\'s experiences in a friendly (most times) chat room? None really, unless you\'re a Script Kiddie.
It all started when I became a regular on Chat-Avenue (http://www.chat-avenue.com). I would always see people bypassing the flooding filter (which\'d be anymore than 5 messages in a row from a single user.) and was fairily intrigued about how people could do this. I then learned about WPE. WPE stands for (W)insock (P)acket (E)ditor. You can edit/modify packets sent to a server, written in hex. Apparently, WPE is also used to hack online games, I\'m not sure which ones, but I know you could with AO (Anarchy Online).
So, I was lost in a sea of Packets, Filters, and failed attempts at \"Pwning\" a Digichat. I managed to learn the basic operations of WPE, but lost interest in it\'s lameness as a whole. Sure, it\'s a very useful program, but you essentially have the Script-Kiddie mentality when you use other people\'s premade packets to become an Admin on 321teenchat, and then crash said chat.
I\'m a moderator of Chat-Avenue, and ever since, I\'ve had the constant headache of IP banning (and often times DoSing) annoying flooders. It gives me great satisfaction to tell someone that they\'re not really a Hacker when they just use something that\'s not written by them. :) Lame as that sounds, I guess it helps.
It kind of ties into \"OUR\" situation, dealing with people that think just because they download a program, or nuke an IP, that they\'re a Hacker; they\'re not in the smallest sense. Maybe you don\'t agree with what this says, so be it. I tend to think (along with the hundred others out there...) that Hacking is essentially a journey of one\'s mind, and if you don\'t USE that mind, you\'re not progressing on your journey to \"Hackerdom\" now, are you? Hacking is an involvement of intrigue, questionability, and the ability to think clearly, concisely, and have a good method of solving problems, and helping others/communities.
Please stop this infection of Kids who think nothing else than destroying and destroying, it\'s not fair to the rest of us.

Alright, one thing that people are mixin up a lot lately. Using a program sum1 else made is still hacking. Some1 (cant remember who) once said "There's no point in re-inventing the wheel". Nobody is going to go code all their own programs. That doesnt make them a skiddie…

true, but thinking your an "ub3r l33t hax0r" just because you used someone else's programs for malicious use, does make you a skiddie. To make ALL of your own programs would be hard work, not to mention the fact that if there's something important to do (say I needed to portscan… erm.. one of my own servers ;)) I would rather use something like nmap, to be sure the server has good security, instead of using one of my own portscanners and possibly missing something. I know you'd agree with me if I said it would take alot of work tto code something like nmap. But anyway, good article :P

Id say your not a skiddie as long as you know what is it that is happening and why something works. Instead of pushing a button and things working for you.

but thats raises the question if you do not know how your OS works does that make you a skiddy? :o
Or if you don't understand how reproduction works…?:right:

Skiddie isn't a subjectavely defined word, so technically you could call anyone a skiddie -.-

I quite diagree. A skiddie is someone who stays with the premade softwares and does not advance and learn. True hackers are those who are interested in learning, even thorugh a premade software, atleast if they know what it does or try to figure it out.

Great article,I am not a ub3r 1337 hax0r,and I might never be but I am too sick of skiddies, and their sub-7 antics.
