10 Commandments Day

10 Commandments Day

Is this the beginning of the end of freedom? In America thousand of people will join together in celebrating the first 10 commandments day on the 7th of May 2006. They say they are making a stand for the Ten commandments. But after some reading into it is quite clear these people will not stop until they get laws.

It is quite ironic really that these religions should be campaigning for laws enforcing the 10 commandments as they have used phrases like "the law has been done away with" or been "nailed to the cross" or "all we need is love". There clearly must be some ulterior-motive. If you look at the 10 commandments closely it becomes quite clear what these people are after.

The 10 commandments say:

  1. Have no other gods other than God
  2. Don't make immage to worship (basically same as above)
  3. Do not take God's name in vain. (So no more OMFGz0r :( )
  4. Remember the sabbath day
  5. Respect your mum and Dad
  6. Do not kill
  7. Do not commit Adultery
  8. Do not steal
  9. Do not lie
  10. Do not covet (or crave) other peoples stuff.

These may sound like a good set of rules to live by but when put into laws these can become harsh and press the boundries of liberty and free speech.

Could you immagine being made to go to church by law, fined for saying "oh my God!" or "for Christ's sake!". The sorry situation is that this is being hid under a outershell of "Do not kill", "Do not steal" ect. which when it comes to the crunch we all agree shouldn't happen but by using religion to make the world a better place things will only get worse.

not to sound to harsh towards the christian religion, buy why would a perfect god create an angel that could become evil? angels are not supposed to have free will like man, so how could the devil exist.? Furhtermore why would god create the tree of knowledge of good and wisdom if he didn't want humans to eat from it? If he could forsee them eating from it then what was the point of creating it in the first place, y not go back to the drawing board and just redesign us? The christian religion makes less sense then bush, and thats pretty sad.

@omniwrath540:

what you say is hard to understand. its one off the most debated topics in religion….

cause ther some common beliefs us christians have:

God made it so we could have a choice

God knows the future

God has a plan for a life

theese three things contradict each other.

IF WE HAVE A CHOICE BUT IF GOD KNOWS THE FUTURE DO WE REALLY HAVE A CHOICE FOR OUR FUTURE IS ALREADY DECIDED

mr_smiley: Yes, an omnipotent God would know what would happen to us, what choices we'd take, and plan accordingly. But do YOU know what choices you'll make in 5 years? Foreknowledge doesn't necessarily lead to no choice. Just because I know that if I leave a two-year old in a room with a sucker that he'll try to eat it, does it mean that I'm taking away his choices?

The US constitution doesn't allow the United States government to make laws enforcing religions and etc, but I don't thing that it includes or even is right to 'protect' people from religion. Just like I think it would be fair to teach the THEORY of evolution alongside the THEORY of creation. Present all sides to people, teach them how to think, and maybe we'd get rid of religious IGNORANCE and INTOLERANCE, which is the true cause of most fights/wars/etc.

Stupidity is our common enemy!
